Position Summary:
Lab Support Technician
The General Services lab support technician at BMS Syracuse is an integral part of the team that makes breakthrough medicines in support of patients. This role supports the research and quality operations on the site. Activities include water sampling, glassware washing, autoclaving, media ordering, preparation, labeling, testing, and delivery, inventory maintenance, housekeeping, and GMP documentation; ensuring continuous adequate supply of GMP compliant stocks are available to support laboratory operations. GMP training and other duties as required to fill the requirements of this role.
Job Functions:
Work schedules provided to the Lab Support Technicians are subject to change by operations management. Both written procedures and verbal instructions will be executed with strict attention to safety and quality. Accurate and timely execution of activities and results are a requirement. Strict adherence to federal, state and local regulations is required. Collaborative work with other employees is a necessity to achieve departmental and company goals. Work will require working in laboratory areas using established procedures. Assignments include but are not limited the use of the following lab equipment: autoclave equipment, lab ware washing and drying equipment, balances, analytical balances, pH meters, Laminar flow hoods and/or BSCs.
Working Conditions:
The position may require the employee to work with chemical and biological agents that may be hazardous to health if mishandled (including agents which may potentially affect reproductive health and/or development of the fetus). Assignments will be executed in laboratories. Employees will be fully trained on personal protection practices, provided clothing and equipment, and are required to follow all safety procedures as provided by the company where specified.
Minimum Education Requirements:
High School education with at least 3 years’ experience. 2 yr. Associate with a concentration on lab science or medical technology is preferred. Proficiency in the use of computer programs/systems is essential. Lab Support Technician must maintain their skills and knowledge of current advances in the field of pharmaceutical discovery and development Incumbents may be required to attend internal or external training courses as approved by management.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to adequately perform required job functions. This includes being able to lift, bend and move in such a way as to perform job tasks in a safe and approved manner. Must be able to operate required equipment required by this position in a safe and approved manner
Skills:
Must have adequate skills to perform required job functions with minimal supervision.
