Mentor Coordinator

The Mentor Coordinator will function as a student paraprofessional staff member of the Office of Student Affairs at Keuka College and provide strong organizational and administrative skills, be able to supervise their peers, and project positive and supportive attitudes as an ambassador of the College. Additionally, work in cooperation with the offices of Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Admissions, International Student Services, and the Center for Experiential Learning. Model ethical behavior and earning the respect of parents, students, faculty, administration, and staff is vital. The Mentor Coordinator will be mature, responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, and reliable.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between Student Affairs and all other campus offices participating in any aspect of Orientation.
  • Work cooperatively with the Associate Vice President for Student Development and Director of Student Activities to develop and implement Mentor Training.
  • Assist with all administrative functions of New Student Orientation (NSO) and Transition Week.
  • Assist the Mentors in the transition to their new positions.
  • Assist in the promotion, recruitment, and planning of Mentor group selection.
  • Present predetermined sessions during Mentor training.
  • Maintain correspondence between the offices of Student Activities and Student Affairs and Mentors, as well as all other campus offices participating in orientation concerning schedules and information pertaining to Orientation sessions.
  • Be present during all of the following Group Selection Process, summer NSO testing dates, Mentor Training, and Transition Week.
  • Maintain regular summer office hours (up to 29 hours per week with all KC combined positions) to be arranged with the Associate Vice President for Student Development and the Director of Student Activities.
  • Assist new students with their transition to Keuka College.
  • Work cooperatively with freshman and transfer academic advisors (academic and international) in continued support of advising efforts.
  • Assist students in developing positive relations with faculty, administration, and peers.
  • Help create an environment which provides sufficient information to enable students to make reasoned and well-informed choices.
  • Help explain information concerning academic policies, procedures, requirements, and programs.
  • Promote an awareness of and encourage involvement in extracurricular activities.
  • Provide information about and exposure to available institutional services.
  • Serve as a liaison for the co-curricular transcript program and work with the Mentors and the Center for Experiential Learning to educate students about the co-curricular transcript process.
  • Make appropriate referrals to available institutional services for new students as needed.
  • Help create an environment that minimizes anxiety, promotes positive attitudes, and stimulates an excitement for learning.
  • Provide opportunities for new students to discuss expectations and perceptions of the campus with current students.
  • Assist with the facilitation of Transition Week prior to the beginning of the fall semester.
  • Be on campus and participate in training during the spring semester and summer of 2016 (dates: June 3-4, June 13-14, August Transfer NSO dates to be announced, and August 17-31).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Model appropriate standards of academic, social, and judicial behavior required.
  • Should be a former Mentor (strongly preferred).
  • Must possess strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Able to supervise their peers.
  • Must project positive and supportive attitudes as an ambassador of Keuka College.
  • Must be mature, responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, and reliable.
  • Must display a positive attitude.
  • Required to have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
  • Ability to model ethical behavior and earn the respect of all constituents is vital.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional weekend and evening hours required
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
